LORD MOUNTBATTEN
TAKING OVER OPERATIONAL COMMAND INDIAN DETERMINATION. AFFIRMED BY GOVERNMENT SPOKESMAN. I (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.15 a.m.) RUGBY, October 24. Admiral Lord Mountbatten, after his return from Chungking, is engaged in the final groundwork preparatory to taking over his command in the operational theatre, says a New Delhi message. Sir Sultan Ahmed, Information Member of the Government of India, speaking on future operations against the Japanese from India, said on Saturday that India was proud she had a vital part to play in the operations against the Japanese. “She will do so with determination and a high sense of duty,” he declared. “There is no Indian who does not realise that a Japanese victory would end all prospects for India. This is our war, and it must be won.”
