STATE THEATRE
“THIS ABOVE ALL.” “This Above All,” which will be shown tonight at the State Theatre, is another of those war pictures that attempt to express the spirit of England. This much-talked-of picture does it well, better than most, and it is remarkable for the fact that it relies almost entirely on the efforts of two people. They are Joan Fontaine and Tyrone Power, and they do a really fine job. Joan Fontaine plays the part of Prudence Catherway, who shocks her aristocratic family, and particularly her aunt, by joining the W.A.A.F’s. as an ordinary private. The aunt thinks that the rest of England exists solely to administer to her comfort. Power is a soldier, with a good record at Dunkirk, but deserts because he considers he is fighting for something futile. There is an inner conflict between his love for the girl and the class she represents. Jhe pictuie is a worthwhile entertainment.
