INSTRUCTIONAL UNIT
AIR TRAINING CORPS DISPLAY VISITING MASTERTON AT W.F.C.A. PARKING AREA. RECRUITING CAMPAIGN DRIVE. On Monday the A.T.C. Mobile Instructional Unit will arrive in Masterton and will be on display at the W.F.C.A. parking area in the afternoon and evening, and again throughout Tuesday, including the evening. The unit consists of three large trucks containing a comprehensive array of the more interesting highlights of Air Force equipment. The Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, will extend a welcome to the unit on its arrival on Monday at the W.F.C.A. Parking Area, at about 12.15 p.m. In the event of the weather being too wet for an outside display, the unit will be accommodated in Fagan’s Garage, Bannister Street. One truck is mounted with the whole of a modern Harvard fighter training aircraft, every part of which is accessible to the public, who will be able to see how all the controls actually work and have them demonstrated. In the other two trucks is a display of. sectioned aircraft engines slowly “ticking over,” a Bolton Paul hydraulic gun turret as used in the modern bomber, and various other interesting items of equipment such as sectioned Browning aerial gun, bombs, bomb racks, aerial camera gun, display of tests of all trades in the R.N.Z.A.F., etc. This display will be of the greatest interest to young and old, and will give an insight into the colossal task undertaken by the R.N.Z.A.F. in maintaining its services in the various theatres of war. To keep up that task, recruits are needed for the Air Training Corps. On Monday night the Masterton and College units of the Air Training Corps will march from the State Theatre to the W.F.C.A*. parking area. They will be headed by the Municipal and Salvation Army bands A reminder is given of the essay competition which is being held, particulars of which were published yesterday.
