The German High Command has announced a special bonus for members of the German forces fighting in the front line: “The payment will depend,” the order states, “on the following hardship conditions: Firstly, deterioration in general conditions of living; secondly, the soldier necessarily must be involved in fighting or forced to remain in the vicinity of the enemy; thirdly, nights repeatedly spent in open trenches; fourthly, irregularity and insufficiency of food supplies.” The conditions automatically exclude women, except front line nurses.
