PATRIOTIC FUND
EXPENDITURE FOR YEAR HOME PURCHASED FOR SICK & WOUNDED MEN (Bv Telegraph— Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. For the year ended September 30, the expenditure bv the National Patriotic Fund Board totalled £1,250,770. Of the £886,237 spent on general patriotic purposes, £142,957 was on account of sick and wounded and £241,576 on prisoners of war. These figures were shown on a financial statement submitted to the newly reconstituted board yesterday. The board commenced the new year with a cash balance of £262,038, plus sundry debtors amounting to £147,000, giving a total of £409,038 but against this is approximately £lBO,OOO in respect to sundry creditors, leaving a net balance of £229,038. Although over £1.000,000 was handled, the administration expenses for such items as postage, telegrams, printing, stationery, insurance, storage, freight and cartage were only £2072. This does not include the salaries of the staff, which are paid by the Government.
It was reported that an ice cream plant and clubhouse at New Caledonia had been completed and would be in commission shortly. Funds to build the club were given recently by the Anzac Division of the British War Relief Society.
The U.S.A. Board decided to make a supply of Christmas cards, with a special design, available to New Zealand troops in the Pacific area, wherever they were unable to obtain greeting cards.
It was decided to purchase Rannerdalc Home. Christchurch, for sick and wounded of the present war.
