CARTERTON

PLUNKET SOCIETY SALE OF BULBS. (“Times-Age” Special.) As the result of the generosity of Mr and Mrs W. Henry Booth, of Middle Run, Carterton, in allowing the picking and selling of daffodil bulbs on their property, the Carterton branch of the Plunket Society has been able to add considerably to its funds. Last year, owing to earthquake damage to Mi’ and Mrs Booth’s homestead, the customary afternoon tea that was served on “Daffodil Day” was discontinued. A suggestion was made and carried into effect that bulbs be picked and sent to Wellington for sale. This Mr and Mrs Booth generously agreed to and £35 was realised. Again this year the picking and marketing of bulbs was carried out by members of the committee and friends for five weeks. Besides the sales in Wellington, a street sale in Carterton was held. Both these efforts realised the sum of £lO3 17s sd. The number of bulbs picked was 6628 dozen and the average marketing price was 4d a bunch. The expense of marketing was a little under jd per dozen. To give some idea of the enormous number growing, the 6628 dozen picked did not by any means deplete the grounds of bulbs. The Carterton branch of the Plunket Society have warmly thanked Mr and Mrs Booth for their generosity.
