WESTMERE

(Continued from page 5.)

SETTLERS’ FAREWELLED MR AND MRS H. E. RENALL (“Times-Age’’ Special.) There was a large and representative attendance at a social gathering on Saturday night when the settlers of the Westmere and Poro Poro districts and their friends gathered to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs H. E. Renall who have sold their farm and are leaving to reside in the Auckland province. Dancing was enjoyed to music supplied by Mr Bruce McGregor, and the ladies served supper. Mr A. Geddes referred to the many good personal qualities possessed by the guests of honour and stated that they were pioneer settlers. He referred 'to their association with the school committee, the tennis club and to other activities and said that the residents were sorry to lose such good neighbours and friends. On behalf of those present Mr Geddes presented Mr and Mrs Renall with a large roll of notes and wished them success in their new home. Miss Olive Renall, a member of the W.A.A.F., was unable to be present, so arrangements were made for a gift to be forwarded to her. Mr Geddes also welcomed Mr Renall’s successor, Mr P. Maddever, who recently returned wounded from the Middle East and wished him success as a farmer. The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” brought the gathering to a close.
