NO GREAT CHANGE
« IN electoral position AS RESULT OF FURTHER COUNT OF SERVICE VOTES ALTERATIONS IN MAJORITIES (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Progress official count returns of service votes from the Middle East and the Pacific have been received by the chief electoral officer, Mr L. Irwin. Though the distribution of these has resulted in alterations to majorities in a number of electorates, there has been no change in the state of the parties. Majorities will probably be further affected by a few additional votes due to the receipt of outstanding ballot papers from isolated stations, but it is not expected that any of the declarations already made of the result of the poll so far as the successful candidate is concerned will be disturbed.
Chief interest in these returns is their influence on the slender majorities. The majority in Eden of Mr W. T. Anderton (Labour) has increased from 10 to 17 over Lieutenant-Colonel W. H. Fortune (National). Mr E. P. Aderman (National, who had a majority of 71 over Mi’ F. L. Frost (Labour) in New Plymouth, has had it reduced by one. The majority of the Minister of Health, Mr Nordmeyer, in Oamaru has increased by 10 to 118 over his Nationalist opponent, Mr T. R. Beatty. Mr B. Roberts (Labour) has increased his majority in Wairarapa over Mr J. J. Maher (National) by nine, to 151, and,in Waitemata Mr H. T. Morton (National) has had his majority of 161 over Mrs M. M. Dreaver (Labour) reduced to 145.
