IMMENSE EXPANSION IN WAR TIME
Figures issued by the Dominion Bureau of Statistics reveal how sensational, despite Axis submarines, has been the war time development of Canada's overseas trade. The value of domestic exports in July amounting to 303,009.000 dollars was approximately four times the value of any peace time monthly trade and about 50 per cent above the figure for July, 1942. The previous highest value occurred in December. 1942. when exports reached a total of 269.000.000 dollars. About 75 per cent of these exports are war materials. During the first seven months of 1943, Canada's exports, mainly war needs such as munitions and food for the Allies, reached the impressive total of 1,581.000,000 dollars, an increase of 22 per cent over the same period in 1942. Of the seven months' export total, 574,000,000 dollars went to Britain and 209.000,000 dollars to other Empire countries.
