POLICE CONFERENCE
INCREASE IN PAY SOUGHT DEPUTATION TO MINISTER AND COMMISSIONER (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. The eighth annual police conference was held this week. It was opened by Mr P C. Webb, in the absence, through illness, of Mr P. Fraser. The conference waited on Mr Webb and the Police Commissioner, Mr Cummings, as A deputation, seeking increases in pay, retirement after 35 years’ service with full superannuation as if for forty years and an early decision by the Government on the retirement of members at present being held beyond the retiring, age. Consideration of the requests was promised. The conference discussed conditions of the reinstatement of returned soldier policemen. It had been intimated that they would be reinstated but the conditions had still to be settled. The conference voted in favour of disabled returned policemen being given suitable clerical uositions in the Force. If was decided to institute a scheme for assisting members compelled by sickness to go on half pay, details to be submitted to the next conference.
