LITTLE THEATRE SOCIETY
LAST NIGHT’S READING. FIVE ONE-ACT PLAYS Members of the Little Theatre Society who attended the playreading at the Society’s hall in Bannister Street last evening were provided with excellent and varied fare The presentation consisted of five one-act plays, all excellently read, and each with its individual appeal. The entertainment provided comprised comedy, tragedy and thrills. The plays presented, with their casts, were as follow: —- “What Happened to Henry,” comedy: Mrs Stokes, Mrs C. Lamont; Mrs Codger (her mother), Mrs T. R. Barrer; Mrs Winterbottom, Mrs Nicol; A Policeman, Mr Peter Alexander; stage directions and direction of pre-reading, Mrs Robt. Miller.
“A Night at an Inn,” thriller by Lord Dunsany: A. E. Scott-Fortescue (the Toff), a dilapidated gentleman, Mr J. M. Lawson; William Jones (Bill), Albert Thomas and Jacob Smith (Sniggers), merchant sailors, Mr V. Joseph, Mr H. H. Daniell and Mr J. B. KentJohnston; stage directions, Klesh, and director of pre-reading, Mr M. M. Simpson. “Establishing Relations,” comedy by W. W. Jacobs: Richard Catesby, of the Mercantile Marine, Mr L. T. Daniell; William Blee, dock foreman, Mr A. E. Clemas; Mrs Truefitt, a widow, Mrs Stubbings; Prudence Truefitt, her daughter, Miss P. Turner; Mrs Porter, a charwoman, Mrs Robt. Miller; stage directions and director of pre-reading, Mrs T. Jordan.
“The Distant Drum,” tragedy by Philip Johnson: Alan Sarne, Mr J. G. Heasley; Olive Siddall, Miss H. Ward; Lady Sarne, Mrs L. T. Daniell; Lord Sarne, Mr M. M. Simpson; 'Michael Kenley, Mr A. W. Don; stage directions and director of pre-reading, Mr J. B. Kent-Johnston.
“A Marriage Has Been Arranged,” duologue by Alfred Sutro: Mr Harrison Crockstead, Mr J. A. Kennedy; Lady Aline de Vaux, Mrs H. Berney; stage directions and director of pre-reading. Mr V. Joseph. The next reading on Wednesday, October 27, will be the delightfully humorous three-act comedy, “Tony Draws a Horse,” by Lesley Storm. It will be remembered that the Society was about to stage Arthur Reid’s comedy, “People in Love,” when the earthquake of June last year put the Opera House out of commission. It has' now been decided to produce the play, with a slightly altered cast, at the Savage Chib Hall on November 20, 22, 23 and 24.
