RED CROSS SOCIETY
COUNTRY DISTRICTS. MEETING OF SUB-CENTRE. The monthly meeting of the Country Districts Red Cross Sub-Centre' was held yesterday at the Country Women’s Club, Masterton, Mrs A. C. Gawith presiding. The president stated that members had packed in October seven Christmas parcels for nurses serving in the Middle East and another two were awaiting dispatch for nurses serving in the Pacific area. The parcels contained stockings, boxes of toilet soap, toilet and foot powders. Mrs de Castro reported that the sewing group had completed about 61 articles which included children’s clothing and articles for the Centre, and six V.A. uniforms. It was suggested that the sub-centre buy 20 yards of flannel to be made into children’s garments Tlnwsub-centre decided not to make a clam for Macarthy Trust money this year.
Mrs Gawith reported on the visit of Miss Crooke and, the. inspection of V.A’s. and also on the Junior Red Cross rally.
Mrs Kemble Welch stated that in connection with the papier mache group, considerable money had been raised from the sale of a variety of splints, bowls, etc.
It was decided to thank the Matahiwi branch for a generous donation of £7 3s (per Mrs Martin) and other money donors, Mesdames C. W. Rutherford, F. Ashworth and Petu Andrew for eggs for the hospital and Mesdames Petu Andrew and Pain (Castlepoint), D. Cameron and Duncan McGregor for clothing and knitted garments.
