SERIOUS DEFEAT
SUFFERED BV GERMANS IN AREA NORTH OF GOMEL. ENEMY LOSSES VERY GREAT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) (Received This Day, 10.30 a.m.) RUGBY, October 13. Two days of battle in the river triangle north of Gomel have ended in a serious defeat for the Germans, states a Moscow message. The German losses here are reported as very great. So aiso were enemy losses in material, whn the Russians captured ammunition trains and immense stores hidden in a forest. * Vast quantities of other stores were abandoned by the Germans during their retreat. The Russians have crossed the river pocket north of Gomel.
