Mrs R. A. Bunny, Perry Street, Masterton, is visiting Wellington. Mrs T. W. Wardell. Te Whiti, is visiting her daughter, Mrs West, Auckland.
Sister R. E. Graham is at present on furlough in Masterton, and is staying with her mother, Mrs Graham, Worksop Road.
The funeral of the late Mr C. F. M. Leach took place in Masterton yesterday afternoon. The Ven. Archdeacon E. J. Rich officiated at the chapel of Hyde's Funeral Service, Ltd., at the graveside. The pall-bearers were Messrs S. Smith, J. Nicol, L. Keen, J. Retter, J. Ryder and E. Leach. The death has occurred, a cablegram reports, of Mr J. T. Tussaud, director of and artist to Madame Tussaud and Sens’ Waxworks Exhibition in London since 1886. He contributed to the exhibition over a thousand portrait modes of the most eminent personages of the period. Mr Tussaud was born in 1858. Besides being an exhibitor at the Royal Academy, he made many contributions to current literature.
The interment of the late Mrs J. Hooper, of Wairoa, and formerly of Masterton, took place at the Masterton Cemetery yesterday afternoon. The Rev G. H. Goodman conducted the service at the chapel of Hyde's Funeral Service, Ltd., and also that at the cemetery. Among a number of wreaths was one from the staff of Messrs R. E. Baker & Co. The pall-bearers were Messrs R. E. Baker, S. Munn, N. Sutherland and J. Hanley.
The engagement is announced of Coyla, youngest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs James Cairns, of Masterton, and Alva, youngest son of the late Mr and Mrs J. D. Foote, of Wilson's Bay, Pelorus Sound, Marlborough. Miss Cairns was formerly on the teaching staff of St. Matthew's Collegiate School for Girls' in Masterton and for many years successfully conducted a kindergarten in Palmerston North. She is a well known elocutionist and the author of children's books.
There was a large and representative attendance at the funeral in Masterton yesterday afternoon of the late Mr C. N. Cole. The Ven. Archdeacon E. J. Rich officiaed. Wreaths were sent by the following:—Officers and members of Stonehenge Lodge, U.A.0.D.; _Wairarapa Women's Hockey Association, Wairarapa Men's Hockey Association and grounds committee, staff of Mr C. N. Cole, Excelsior Hockey Club, Wairarapa Hockey Umpires' Association, officers and members of the Masterton Fire Brigade, and Harcombe Motors, Ltd. The pall-bearers wore Messrs R. Rawson and F. Pickering (representing the Druids’ Lodge), G. Smith and Gunner M. C. Cole (representing the R.S.A.), and Messrs B. Falloon and I. Burgess (staff of Mr Cole),.
