ITALIAN SHIPS

USE TO BEST POSSIBLE ADVANTAGE PROMISED BY MR CHURCHILL NAVAL & MERCHANT VESSELS (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.55 a.m.) RUGBY, October 12. “I can assure my honourable friend that Italian ships will be used to the best possible advantage of the United Nations,” said Mr Churchill, answering a question in the House of Commons iegarding Italian warships and merchantmen. “The major part of the Italian Fleet, totalling over a hundred warships in all categories, is in Allied hands,” the Prime Minister added. "This includes five out of six battleships in commission, and eight out of eleven cruisers. Over 150,000 tons of merchant ships so far have been accounted for in ports under Allied control. It would not be in the public interest to go further into detail. The position of the ships and their crews is still under active consideration.”
