MARTINBOROUGH
BOROUGH COUNCIL BUSINESS AT MONTHLY j MEETING (“Times-Age" Special.) The monthly meeting of the Martinborough Borough Council was held last night. The Mayor, Mr C. R. Holmes, presided and there were also present Councillors P. A. Hamilton, C. M. Ross, F. Gray, W. H. Corfield, P. L. Sievers. W. J. Blissett, H. Parsons and Mr F. P. Duffy, Town Clerk. On account of Mr M. Mulvaney resigning at the previous meeting of the council, Mr C. E. White was appointed to fill the vacancy. Mr C. R. Mabson, Borough Engineer. Masterton, wrote asking for information' regarding the amount of war damage insurance paid since it was instituted. The Town Clerk was instructed to provide the information. The Treasury forwarded £632 as a rebate on earthquake accounts. The Friend to Sailors Mission was granted permission to hold a street day appeal. ■ The clerk was appointed to attend the Municipal Association conference at Napier on February 23 and 24, 1944. It was decided to hold a meeting of the Park Committee in the Park on Sunday morning to discuss the matter of a shelter for women with prams and for children. It was decided to divide the town into four areas to enable an inspection of work that required carrying out. The areas to be defined are: Western. Mr Ross; southern, Mr Blissett; eastern, Mr Corfield; northern, Mr Hamilton. Mr Pardons was appointed to assist MiGray at the headworks.
