GREYTOWN
GOLF SEASON CONCLUDING GAMES PLAYED. ("Times-Age” Special.) The Greytown Golf Club’s season was brought to a close at the weekend. The winners of the competitions were: Driving, E. Maddison 1, G. Te Whaiti 2; approaching, H., Keltic 1, S. Brice 2; putting, E. Maddison 1, S. Brice 2. Ladies: Driving, Miss M. Wood 1, Miss Oxford 2; approaching, Mrs. M. Maddison 1, Mrs. J. Kiernan 2; putting, Mrs. S. Thompson 1, Mrs. M. Maddison 2. At a special general meeting held after the competitions, the president, Mr J. Kiernan, outlined the steps taken by the committee to secure new links. The new course, said Mr. Kiernan, would be ideal and was quite handy to the town. The committee was authorised to sign the agreement for a fiveyear term and carry out any immediate work on the new course.
Mr. P. Pope kindly offered to supervise the shifting of the Golf House. Mr. Kiernan complimented the members on the spirit in which they had kept the cub going since the war started. Many members, owing to other duties, were unable to play, but they had all paid their subscriptions. The general feeling was to keep the club going till the service men returned. Twenty-three club members were overseas, sixteen being in the Army, two in the Air Force and five in -the Navy. One member, Mr. Roy Ingley, had made the supreme sacrifice, and the club expressed its sympathy with his parents. TOWN HALL TOMORROW'S PROGRAMME. “Beau Geste,” starring Gary Cooper, Ray Milland and Robert Preston is the feature at the Town Hall, Greytown, tomorrow night.
