ARRIVAL IN CHUNGKING PERLUDE TO HEAVY BLOWS AGAINST THE JAPANESE IN SOUTH-EAST ASIA DECLARATION BY CHINESE SPOKESMAN (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.10 a.m.) CHUNGKING, October 8. Admiral Lord Mountbatten’s ar- ' rival is the prelude to heavy blows against Japan in Burma, IndoChina, Thailand and Malaya, declared a Chinese Army spokesman. Admiral Mountbatten has arrived in Chungking to confer with General Chiang Kai-Shek, after his talks with General Auchinleck in India. The spokesman also stated that the Chinese had launched a general offensive in East China and were making very favourable progress.
