WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

SOLWAY-MANA IA MEETING COMPETITION RESULTS (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the SolwayManaia Women’s Institute was held in the Epiphany Hall on Thursday, when Mrs Munn presided over a good attendance of members. Mrs Catton and Mrs Munn were appointed delegates to attend the council meeting at Carterton on November 12. A demonstration on making slippers was given by a member and was much appreciated. A letter was received from the Plunked Society thanking members for the gift of garments. The roll call, “Your Name and Why?” was well responded to. It was decided that at the November meeting Mesdames M. Mullan, McAlister, Moore and Nelson should be the hostesses. The competitions resulted as follows: Cooking: Sponge sandwich, Mesdames Tulloch 1, Woollett 2, Allen 3. Sewing: Something new from something old, Mesdames Sutherland 1, Catton 2, Thompson 3. Large bloom: Mesdames Scrivener 1, Allen 2, Carr 3. Small bloom, Mesdames Webber 1, Carr 2, Catton 3. Cluster bloom: Mesdames Thompson 1, Sutherland 2, Cornick 3.. Collection of spring bulbs, Mesdames Catherall 1, Allen 2, Munn 3.
