RED CROSS SHIPMENTS
FOR PRISONERS OF WAR REFUSED BY JAPAN VIOLATION OF INTERNATIONAL CODE (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day. 11.45 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The Japanese have refused to agree to any regular shipments of relief goods for prisoners of war. This is reported by Australian Red Cross officials. Japan will not allow neutral or Allied ships carrying relief supplies to sail in Japanese-controlled waters. Messages through Japanese radio stations constantly include requests for Red Cross parcels and it is therefore believed that Allied prisoners in the Far East have not been informed of Japan’s refusal to co-operate. The Japanese action is entirely contrary to the International Prisoner of War code.
