Medium bombers attacked highways and road junctions at Mignano, Formia and Isernia, while fighters and fighter-bombers attacked motor transport in the battle area. During these and other operations, six enemy aircraft were destroyed. Three of ours are missing.” AGAIN REPORTED CROSSING OF VOLTURNO RIVER (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.35 a.m. RUGBY, October 7. Correspondents report that a crossing of the Volturno River has been forced. From Capua to the Sea the river is some 400 feet wide. The speed of its flow is influenced by the amount of snow flooding from the mountains. GERMAN REPORT BOMBING ATTACK ON ALLIED CONVOY. OFF THE ALGERIAN COAST. LONDON, October 7. The German news agency states that German torpedo-planes off the Algeiian coast made a low-level attack on .an Allied convoy of 80 ships which were sailing in an easterly direction. “One ship after another was hit and left damaged or burning,” it stated. "A fully-laden 10,000-ton transport, which was also carrying munitions, blew up and sank before lifeboats could .be lowered. A second transport of similar tonnage received a direct hit.”
