INCLUDING BIG FREIGHTERS HIT IN NAVAL AND AIR RAID ON NORWAY. SOME VERY BADLY DAMAGED. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.25 a.m.) LONDON, October 7. A Reuter correspondent who was aboard a cruiser of the Home Fleet reports on the results of the naval action against enemy shipping in the Bodo area (Norway) on October 5. An 8,000-ton tanker, he says was hit and left down by the stern and making for the beach. A 5000-ton freighter was hit three times by bombs and left with smoke pouring out. An 8000-ton freighter was left burning, after being hit. A loaded barge was bombed and run on to the beach. A 5000-ton freighter was left listing, with her crew abandoning her. Other hits, the effects of which were not observed,, brought the total of vessels hit to eight merchantmen of 3,000 to 8,000 tons; also a landing barge and a 1200-ton ore vessel. Admiral Fraser told other ships of z the fleet in port to give a cheer, as she entered the harbour, to the United States' aircraft-carrier from which torpedo-planes and dive-bombers were launched.
