BOWLING
MASTERTON PARK CLUB. SEASON TO OPEN ON SATURDAY, At the monthly meeting of the committee final arrangements were made for the official opening of the Masterton Park Bowling Club’s green at 2 p.m. on Saturday. As has been the custom in previous years, members and visitors will be the guests of the club at afternoon tea. The green presented an animated scene yesterday when an energetic band of helpers set to work to prepare the green and environs for the opening. The erection of the new pavilion is now well under way. Throughout the winter months a loyal band of helpers, under the able leadership of Mr. R. Jenkins and the president. Mr. A. Osborne, spent many hours on this building, with the result that in the near future tho club will have very comfortable appointments, consisting of a main hall 2a feet by 20 feet, in addition to a locker-room, a kitchen and a store room, all under one roof, and a 7 feet verandah extending the full length of the building. During the same period the green committee assisted by other stalwarts, prominent among whom was the club’s patron, Mr. J. Coc, have added considerably to the playing area by levelling and extending the small green, and with the cooperation of the Council’s Park Committee, the entrance to the green has been greatly improved. A substantial donation to the building fund has been gratefully received from Mr. W. Drummond. There is every indication that the membership of 75 will be increased this season.
