LICENSING POLL

POSITION IN INVERCARGILL. (By ■ Telegraph—Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, October 6. The recount of the civilian votes in the local option licensing issue in Invercargill was begun this afternoon and may be completed tomorrow night, including the counting of absentee and postal votes. It is not yet known in Invercargill when the results of the services’ voting on the issue will be available, but it is expected that they will be announced at the weekend or earlier next week.

The position at present is that the total in favour of restoration of liquor licences is 361 short of the required three-fifths majority.
