LADIES’BOWLING CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mrs W. Martin presided over the annual meeting of the Carterton Ladies’ Bowling Club, when there was a good attendance. The annual report was adopted. The election of officers for the ensuing season resulted as follows: —President, Mrs W. Martin (rb-elected); hon. secretary, Miss D. Armstrong (reelected); match committee, Mesdames V. L. Robinson, A. Thompson and Miss K. Lamb. Competitions for the coming season were arranged. The following new members were nominated:—Mesdames J. L. Harris, I. Nix and K. Goodin. Personal Items. A large gathering of citizens at the Dalefield Dairy Company’s building last evening entertained Groundsman C. M. Kiddie, of the R.N.Z.A.F., who is on furlough in Carterton. Mr D. L. Taverner (Mayor) presided, and on behalf of the citizens asked the guest of honour to accept a small token of their respect. The Mayor, on behalf of members of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, presented Groundsman Kiddie with a parcel of woollen garments. Road Blocked. Many slips have recently come down on the Maungaraki Hill roads on the east coast. Yesterday a fairly large slip in the vicinity of Tyneside completely blocked the road to traffic. It is expected that the slip will be cleared away today. Methodist Church Anniversary. The 72nd anniversary of the Carterton Methodist Church will be observed! at the week-end. The Rev. Archer Harris, of Petone, will conduct both the morning and evening services on Sunday at which there will be special items by the choir. On Tuesday evening at 5.30 o’clock, the usual anniversary “Knife and Fork” tea will be held, followed by a public meeting in the church, when an excellent programme will be presented.
Ladies’ Hockey Club Dance.
Tonight at the State Theatre, the Carterton Ladies’ Hockey Club will hold a wind-up to the season dance. Mrs. Ashton’s orchestra will provide the music and a good supper will be supplied.
Special Order.
In today’s issue public notice is given that the Carterton Borough Council by special order passed on 28th September declared that a certain area of land in Kent Street would be taken over as a public street. The same will be confirmed on 20th October at a special meeting of the Council.
Personal.
Mrs. M. A. Teal, a very old identity of Carterton, entered the Croydon Hospital yesterday to undergo treatment.
