POST-WAR TRADE

ACTION PLANNED IN CANADA. OTTAWA, September 6. Canada is preparing for a forward movement in the development of international post-war trade. “Canada,” I the Hon. Jas. L. Ilsley told the annual i convention of the Trades and Labour Congress of Canada, gathered at Quebec, “must be prepared after victory to do its share in bringing about an international prosperity, in developing ’ trade between countries, possibly even in helping other countries to develop themselves to the point . where they ■ can trade effectively with us and with . others. We are pushing ahead now in Ottawa with efforts to prepare ourselves for such international action.” “We must,” he continued, “advance - with the same vigour and energy after - the war that we are now using in the war itself. We must pursue better " housing with the same effort and effectiveness that we are devoting now to r price control. We must conserve and \ carry out social insurance with the I same boldness and thoroughness with “which we have raised income tax for -war purposes. We must have the same • euiiragc and faith in financing useful “ peace-time development as we have had to apply in financing the war. We "must retain the confidence that we have gained in the war to shake off iforever the frustration which fell upon 'us in the 1930’5.”
