GERMAN CLAIM
CAPTURE OF INSTALLATIONS ON KOS ISLAND ITALIAN GOOD FAITH DOUBTFUL ACCORDING TO AMERICAN CORRESPONDENT (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.55 a.m.) LONDON, October 4. The Berlin radio tonight claimed that German landing forces which attacked Kos Island captured all military installations. Mr Cyrus Sulzburger, “New York Times” correspondent, says the Allies have rather a risky position on the islands they have taken in the Dodecanese group. These islands—Kos, Leros and Samos —are more accessible to German reinforcements than to Allied reinforcements, which must come from the Middle East. The Allied position on the islands will depend largely on the Italian garrison’s willingness to assist. It is impossible to predict the effectiveness of such aid, especially when it is considered that Italian treachery recently resulted in the capture by the enemy of important Allied officers.
