OBITUARY

MR. JOHN JONES. The death occurred suddenly in the Wellington Hospital of Mr. John Jones, a well-known former resident of Masterton, in his 70th year. The late Mr. Jones was born at Flag Swamp, Waikouaiti, and was engaged in farming in his younger days. He came to Masterton in 1900 and worked for Messrs. Pinhey Bros, as a coachdriver on the Tinui and Stronvar runs. In partnership he operated the coaches after Messrs. Pinhey Bros, sold out. For the last 20 years he had resided in Wellington, where he had a carrying business, disposing of it three years ago. Since then he had lived in retirement. Mr. Jones, who was a single man, possessed a kind disposition and was very popular among his friends.

MR, JOSEPH WORKMAN. The death occurred this morning of Mr. Joseph Workman, of High Street, Masterton, at the age of 73 years. Born at Kaikoura, the late Mr Work>man had been employed by the Judd •family, of Solway, for over 50 years. He was unmarried, and is survived by his mother, Mrs Workman (Greytown), a brother, Mr. R. Workman (Greytown), and two sisters, Mesdames Pond (Wellington and formerly of Greytown) and Short (Wellington). The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving the chapel of Hyde’s Funeral Service, Ltd., following a service at 3 p.m„ for the Masterton Cemetery.
