OFFICIAL COUNT
OF VOTING PLACES IN PACIFIC APPOINTMENT OF SCRUTINEERS. NO CHANGE REGARDING DOUBTFUL SEATS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. An opportunity to have scrutineers present at the official count of the general election votes at certain places in the Pacific is to be given to representatives of the four political parties. This is not an investigation but a scrutiny such as is provided for at official counts in New Zealand and at which the candidates can be represented. It is understood that the Government will provide transport facilities from New Zealand to the Pacific, but that all other expenses will have to be paid by the parties themselves. The Labour Party's representative will be the secretary of the party, Mr. M. Moohan. The representative of the Democratic Labour Party will be Mr. W. E. Millar, Lower Hutt, president of the party’s Wellington Suburbs election * committee. The scrutineers will be able to see for themselves how the votes were collected, whether the declaration votes were correctly made, and the general method of conducting the election. If any investigation is considered desirable, it is felt there is ample power in the Electoral Act to enable this to be done. The situation in regard to the doubtful seats is still unchanged, and must: remain so till the completion of the official counts. It is expected that some of these will be finished within the next day or so, and even possibly today. FINAL FIGURES IN BULLER (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WESTPORT, October 3. The official count in the Buller electorate is as follows: —P. C. Webb, 6677; E, W. Nicolaus, 2123; informal, 199. Total vote, 8919.
