ALLIED INVASION
OF WESTERN EUROPE POST FOR GENERAL MARSHALL. FURTHER AMERICAN REPORT. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) NEW YORK, September 30. High quarters confirm that General Marshall, the United States Chief of Staff, will soon establish headquarters in England to direct the Allied invasion oi the Continent from the West, says the “New York Times.” However, it i<= emphasised that General Marshall will command only the forces which actually attack Europe from the west and will not supersede General Eisenhower, who will continue as commander-in-chief of his Allied forces till General Marshall’s armies Hom the west meet the armies from the south, and thereby establish one continuous front against the Reich. Questioned at his Press Conference in Washington as to whether he could comment on the report of Marshall’s appointment to England, Mr Roosevelt replied: “It is possible; it has not been determined, and a lot oi people’s faces will get red.
