HITLER AS TARGET
GRIM RUSSIAN JEST ON EAST FRONT. One night not long ago, “Soviet Wai News” relates, a group of Red Army men crawled out into no man s lan and put up two poles. Between these two nolcs they stretched a canvas cartoon of Hitler. It was not complimentary to the Fuehrer. Under the cartoon was written in large German letters “Shoot at Me.” When the sun rose they could hear loud discussions from the German trenches, where a Waffen S.S. xegiment was stationed. The staff ofliceis came and had a look at the insulting cartoon through binoculars. Before noon they opened an “offensive” to capture tne cartoon. A detail of soldiers was ordered to take the canvas down. This detail almost reached the cartoon before they were wiped out. Another detail was sent. It also failed to reach the picture. Then in the evening Germany artillery all along the sector opened up on the Fuehrer. All .the German guns were concentrated on that one spot. It took a 15-minute concentrated barrage before the cartoon was blasted out of existence.
