DEATHS IN CALCUTTA. GOVERNMENT RELIEF MEASURES. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, September 30. Since August 16, 5400 starving persons have been taken to hospital in Calcutta, where 1230 have died, making the total deaths in the city from starvation 2982, says the Calcutta correspondent of “The Times.” The Government has provided more than 4000 relief kitchens in the province. The Ministry is bringing in grain from other provinces, sending it to Calcutta and from districts with a surplus to those with a deficit. Rice seems generally to have disappeared from the market.
