STRIKE IN MALTA

DOCKYARD WORKERS WANT MORE PAY. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 12.15 p.m.) RUGBY, September 29. Dockyard workers in Malta struck today, following on an announcement of the Government’s decision on their application for an increased war bonus. Seventeen thousand workers struck for six days last month, but returned to work after a conference had been called by Lord Gort. The Government agreed to increase subsidies for certain rationed goods to reduce the cost of living, and also granted part of the minimum wage demanded. The workers consider that the latest proposals are still inadequate-.
