STRUCK BV ALLIED PLANES AT WEWAK SEVEN JAPANESE SHIPS SUNK. 64 ENEMY AIRCRAFT DESTROYED. LONDON, September 28.. Allied bombers had an excellent day in New Guinea. The main Japanese. supply base at Wewak was raided and seven enemy ships—three tankers and four merchant ships—were sunk. Fourteen enemy planes were shot down and 50 more on the ground destroyed.
