100,000 PEOPLE STARVING IN CALCUTTA. CRITICISM OF NEW DELHI. ADMINISTRATION. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) CALCUTTA. September 27. Thousands of people from the rural areas arc attempting to reach Calcutta in the hope of finding food, and many are dying by the roadside. It is estimated that 100,000 are destitute and starving in Calcutta, where the hospitals are filled to capacity. Fifty thousand tons of grain have reached Calcutta within the past month. The death-roll, nevertheless, is mounting. The newspapers, which normally are friendly, are bitterly attacking the New Delhi Administration for lack of foresight in planning.
