PERSONAL
4 The death has occurred in Auckland of Mr William Senderson La Trobe. C.8.E., a former superintendent of technical education and an educationist of high standing who was for some years closely associated with the advance of technical education in Wellington. Mr La Trobe was born in Nga Roto, Waikato, in 1870. By the death of Mr George E. Billson, life-saving in New Zealand has lost one of its most noted figures. Mr Billson died in hospital on Monday at the age of 64, says a Press Association telegram from Christchurah. Mr Billson had been connected with the Royal Lifesaving Society for over 40 years. He was responsible for the formation of the New Zealand Council of the Life-saving Society in 1912, and remained a member till his death. For several years he was president of the council.
The popularity and esteem in which Private A. E. Friend, 2nd N.Z.E.F., on leave from the Middle East, is held by members of the Red Star Cricket Club was in evidence last night when he was made a presentation of a smoker’s companion by Mr G. B. Peterson, at the annual meeting of the club. In making the presentation Mr Peterson wished Private Friend a happy married life and expressed the good wishes of club members. The recipient suitably replied.
