ST. JOHN’S GUILD SUCCESSFUL GARDEN PARTY. (“Times-Age” Special.) St. John's Ladies’ Guild was fortunate in having fine weather for its annual garden party in the grounds of the Bank of New Zealand yesterday. A most successful “bring and buy” stall was held, the amount obtained (including donations) being £26, which, in part, will be used to pay off the debt on the Parish Hall. The Rev. J. R. Higgs, on behalf of the church vestry, thanked the Guild members for their untiring efforts, and the excellent result achieved. He also expressed the gratitude of those present to Mrs Bloxam for the use of her house and garden. Mrs Blpxam presented a shoulder spray to Miss Nix, who is leaving Featherston. Miss Nix suitably replied. The hostesses in connection with the afternoon tea were Mesdames Ray, Matthews, Bloxam, Sharp, Brandon, Kilsby, Higgs and Miss Nix. Miniature Rifles. The following were the scores registered in a competition held by the Featherston Miniature Rifles Club: —D. Flynn. 98; L. Rasmussen, L. Hodder, 97; Mrs Thurston, 96; K. Feast, 96; D. Feast, 95; A. Burt, 94; Mrs Clark, 92; A. Cross, 91; A. Johnson, 86; Mrs Hodder, 90; S. Hodder, 85; R. Johnson, 82; J. Gain, 75, G. Cole, 54; K. Wendon, 54. Personal. Mrs Tullock, who had been visiting her daughter in Wellington, has returned home, COSY THEATRE “MEET JOHN DOE.” Tonight's programme will be headed by the outstanding drama, “Meet John Doe,” in which the chief roles are taken by Edward Arnold, Walter Brennan, Spring Byington and James Gleason.
