AXIS SHIPPING

LIMITATION AFTER THE WAR SUGGESTED BY ADMIRAL LAND (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 11,20 a.m.) WASHINGTON September 24. The Maritime Commission chairman, Rear-Admiral Land, told the Press he favours limiting the size of Axis post-war merchant fleets. “I am expressing my own views,” he said, “but if I had my way they would be left with very little.” He added that by the end of 1944' American shipyards will have delivered approximately 50,000,000 deadweight tons of merchant shipping since 1938. The construction programme has now reached a levelling-off state. The September production rate will be sufficient to meet 1943-44 goals.
