The United States Chief of Staff, General Marshall, broadcasting at a bond rally, said: “The Allies are ready to open big offensives in Italy, Burma and China. While total victory is in sight, it can be won only by the concentration of every resource to the “An offensive is already beginning toward Naples and Rome, and in Burma and the Chinese theatre the Allies are getting into position to carry heavy fighting to the Japanese. In fact, for the first time since the war started we are ready to deploy the tremendous American Army.” The Allies had lately been successful, he said, but he warned the people not to. be lulled into a false sense of security by initial successes. The losses of every conceivable type of military equipment through enemy action and other hazards surpassed any in history. There would be no end to the requirements for weapons till the last battle was won.
