SPORT IN WARTIME ONLY LIMITED ACTIVITIES (“Times-Age" Special.) As so many Carterton youths are engaged in connection with the war it is not expected that the district will figure prominently in summer sport. There will, of course, be a fairly large number of bowlers, as such players are mostly over age or unfit for military service. Bowling is becoming more popular among the ladies of Carterton and some keen games should be witnessed this season. It is not expected that a cricket team will be put in the field, while the players of tennis will be restricted in number. The war has certainly had a serious effect on sport in this district. Women’s Division Dance. The Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union has decided to hold a plain and fancy dress dance in the State Theatre, Carterton, on Saturday, October 2. Prizes will be awarded for fancy dresses. Political Address. Mr J. J. Maher, National candidate for the Wairarapa seat addressed about 200 electors at the State Theatre, Carterton, last night. He had a very attentive hearing. A vote of thanks io the speaker and confidence in him was proposed by Mr Cliff Abbott and carried.
