OPPOSITION PARTIES

4. TO OPERATE SEPARATELY IN AUSTRALIA. MR MENZIES ELECTED LEADER OF U.A.P. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) CANBERRA, September 22. Meetings of the United Australia Party and the United Country Party today decided to operate as separate entities within Parliament, thus breaking the working arrangement that has been in existence for some years. Mr R. G. Menzies was elected leader of the U.A.P., and, as it is the largest party after the Government, he will also be Leader of the Opposition. Mr W. M. Hughes, who led the party in the last Parliament, did not seek re-elec-tion, but was elected deputy leader. Mr A. W. Fadden was re-elected leader of the Country Party.
