IN GOOD TIME
VOTING BY ARMED FORCES IN PACIFIC. FOLLOWING ON DISTRIBUTION OF MATERIAL (N.Z.E.F. Official War Correspondent) NEW CALEDONIA, September 15. Tremendous interest in the 1943 general election in New Zealand is being taken by New Zealand service personnel on duty in the Pacific war zone and voting is now in progress both in static booths and in mobile booths, which travel to isolated detachments of soldiers and airmen. Arrangements have also been made to record the votes of New Zealanders serving with naval and merchantile marine units. Although nominations did not close until noon on September 9, there was commendable promptitude in distributing the manifestos of the various political parties and groups of Independents. Printed matter for the assistance of service men and women left Wellington by aeroplane for a northern airport on September II and from this point was quickly distributed by air to all parts of the Pacific where New Zealanders are serving. Thus was ensured a speedy delivery of all manifestos, lists of election candidates and voting material to every Royal New Zealand Air Force station and every New Zealand Army unit. The distribution was completed on September 15.
