BOY SCOUTS

ACTIVITIES IN MASTERTON.

ENJOYABLE GATHERINGS.

On Saturday a party of 28 Scouts under Scoutmaster Trim and accompanied by the District Commissioner, H. W. Higginson, came from Eketahuna, and 12 Cubmasters and boys from the Hutt Valley to take part in scouting activities in Masterton.

The senior and junior football games which were played at the Lansdowne School ground between Eketahuna and Masterton, were both won by Masterton, after very evenly-contested games. Mr W. Grantham ably controlled both games. Afternoon tea was served on the grounds, after which the Eketahuna Scouts were taken home to tea by the Masterton Scouts. In the evening, a camp fire was held at St. Matthew’s den, being declared open by the District Commissioner. Songs and items were thoroughly enjoyed by the parents and friends present. The serving of supper brought an enjoyable gathering to a conclusion, the Eketahuna Scouts then leaving for their homes tired but happy.

On Sunday the Cubmaster and boys from the Hutt Valley and the local Scouts and Cubmasters, spent the day in the country, cooking lunch at Carter’s Bush and afterwards visiting Middle Run. Thanks were extended to Mr Booth for the enjoyable time they had, and for the gift of bulbs to the Hutt visitors.

The weekend activities closed with tea at the Scout Den, prepared by the ladies’ committee. Thanks are extended by the local Scout authorities to those who billeted the visiting Scouts and those who assisted in making the weekend gatherings the success they were.
