WINTER CLOTHING

LARGE SUPPLIES SENT TO GERMANY FOR BRITISH WAR PRISONERS REPLY TO NEW ZEALAND INQUIRY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A reply to a cabled inquiry sent by the Prisoners of War Inquiry Office, Wellington, regarding the supply of battle dress, underwear and boots to prisoners of war in Germany, states that Germany says the general situation has been greatly improved by adequate consignments, particularly of battle dress. The cablegram states that the British Red Cross, which acts on behalf of the various British governments in the assembling and despatch of clothing, has advised that large consignments of battle dress and blouses are en route and should cover all demands. The Inquiry Office feels quite confident in assuring next of kin that all prisoners should be adequately provided for before the advent of winter.

It has been notified that the British censorship authorities have instructed that no Christmas or New Year cards or calendars be allowed to be sent to prisoners of war and civilian internees in German or Italian hands. Information to hand from a London source states that prisoners’ letters place CCPG 106, PM 3,100, as being between Milan and Turin. It is notified that a new camp for Air Force prisoners, Stalag Luft VI, is at Heydekrug, about 30 miles south of MemelJ in East Prussia.
