Cosy Theatre Reconstruction. Referring to the fact that the entrances to William Street, next to the Cosy Theatre, were boarded up yesterday, the Borough Engineer, Mr C. R. Mabson, said that the street was temporarily closed on his suggestion to safeguard the public while reconstruction work was carried out on the theatre. Mr Mabson said that the Cosy Theatre would be strengthened on earthquake resisting lines in accordance with his requirements. A large part of the parapet had to be removed. West School Committee. Mr R. S. Graham presided over the monthly meeting of the Masterton West School Committee, when it was decided to mole drain the playing area with a view to improving the turf. It was suggested that a power lawn mower be purchased. It was reported that arrangements to re-establish the milk-in-schools scheme were practically completed. The headmaster, Mr J. P. Wage rates—£s 10s for senior males and £3 5s for senior females, with cost-of-living bonuses—remain unaltered in the new award issued by the Arbitration Court to cover members of the Federated Clerical and Office Staff Employees’ Union, but there is an extension of the field in which 5s extra is granted for operators of bookkeeping machines. Captain Justin Power, Independent candidate for the Masterton seat, addressing a meeting of electors at Mt. Bruce last evening, drew attention to what he termed was another misrepresentation on the part of the Government. Mr Frost, Labour member, is reported as stating, in reply to a question concerning Mrs Dreaver’s broadcast, “that the matter of nationalisation was not mentioned in caucus, and, indeed, not thought of, and if Mrs Dreaver did make the statement it was Mrs Dreaver’s own personal opinion.” Captain Power quoted from the official minutes of the Labour Party’s 21st annual conference, 1937, page 32. An amendment moved by Mr H. Herring, M.P., to a motion moved by Mr D. Barnes, M.P., was carried, and read as follows:—“That the following words be added, ‘and also recommends that a policy of nationalisation be carried out as soon as practicable’.” Now, asked Captain Power ,who was who and what was what in the Labour Government?
