HYDRO-ELECTRICITY
ESTABLISHMENT OF NEW PLANTS. SUGGESTED IN WAIRARAPA AREA. (“Times-Age" Special.) The possibility of establishing small hydro-electric generating plants in the Wairarapa was suggested by the New Zealand Power Boards’ Association m a letter received at today’s meeting of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board. The board decided to investigate the proposal. The Managing-Secretary, Mr G. Brown, said that a preliminary investigation had been made with a view’ to harnessing power generated from, the Waiohine or Tauherenikau rivers. Mr Brown said that it was estimated that a plant in the Waiohine River could generate 750 kilowatts. At Kourarau over 3,000,000 units of electricity were generated last year. Mr F. C. Daniell said it had been estimated that from steam generating plants electricity could be produced at •Jd per unit.
