STATE THEATRE

• "REMEMBER THE DAY.” Because of its intensely human quality as much as for its authentic atmosphere and the restrained acting of the leading players, “Remember the Day,” which will be shown tonight and on Wednesday afternoon, is worth seeing. Such a story, exploiting the hackneyed flashback butt yet managing to infuse it with real sincerity and feasibility, required artists of the calibre of Claudette Colbert and John Payne to put it across, and they have done a good piece of work. There is much of the best qualities of “Smilin’ Through” n the production, and for all that it appears at first sight to be a woman’s story, there is a good deal in it that will appeal to the males in the audience. Its wholesomeness is one of the outstanding features. The main setting a typical American town with the school as its centrepiece, is convincing, and it is a high tribute to Miss Colbert that she is equally convincing with the passage of years. There will be no pictures screened on Thursday night as the theatre has been let for a political purpose.
