MEDICAL SERVICES
CO-OPERATION OF DOCTORS DESIRED. OBSERVATIONS BY PREMIER. (By Telegranh—Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, This Day. The Government desired the cooperation of doctors in devising the most modern and scientific medical scheme in the world, said the Prime Minister (Mr Fraser) in an address last night. He said the panel system was not entirely satisfactory and the payment for service system also had its disadvantages, but they had removed from the people fears of running into debt through consulting doctors when medical services were necessary. Mr Fraser said he had the greatest admiration for the medical profession and was sorry there had been differences of opinion with doctors. Regarding the establishment of modern health clinics, Mr Fraser said that at such institutions there would be general practitioners, skilled diagnosis surgeons and specialists, working, if.they liked, in co-operation. The Government would provide adequate remuneration, but it did not want the State to dominate. There would still be need for a State system in some parts, because clinics were not practicable.
