Further north, Soviet forces are closing in on Pavlograd, the big railway centre less than 40 miles from the Dnieper. In the Northern Ukraine, the spearheads of the Red Army have reached a point 75 miles east of Kiev. The Russians today gained more ground in their drive towards Roslavl, half-way along the railway from Bryansk to Smolensk.
