NOTABLE ALLIED VICTORY IN NEW GUINEA JAPANESE PUT TO FLIGHT. ATTACKERS NOW CLOSING IN GN LAE.LONDON, September 13. Allied forces in New Guinea have captured Salamaua, 24 hours after the airfield had been occupied. The Japanese fled northwards. The capture of this Japanese base completes, the first stage of the Allied operations, following on the recent landing on the New Guinea coast. Allied forces arc now closing in on Lae.
